Networking and Professional Development Luncheon PLUS Morning-After Chat
How To Use The Search To Power Up Your Public Relations
October 4, 2006, 11 am - 1 pm

Maggiano's Little Italy,1901 W. Woodfield Rd., Schaumburg (Info/Map)

PR professionals have long been predicting the death of the press release. And it was difficult to disagree as communicators found that smart pitching, concise fact sheets and thought-leadership articles were far more successful in achieving media relations traction.

But wait a minute—in an age of search-focused and aggregation-reliant media, web-savvy PR practitioners are breathing new life into the press release. Companies aren’t just “self-publishing’ their news on the web—they’re digitally optimizing their articles to target them at customers, investors, opinion leaders and other key audiences via search engines and content aggregators. Whether you call the result a press release, search release, marketing release or something else, this new PR approach involves different rules and new thinking.

Featured Speaker:

Carol Jouzaitis
Senior Vice President, Director of Public Relations
Slack Barshinger

With a proven track record in developing and executing high-impact public relations programs, Carol oversees the PR department at Slack Barshinger. In her 25 years of experience in public relations and journalism, she has amassed a deep understanding of communications, the media and media relationships. That knowledge has made her adept at helping companies strategically increase their visibility, build their brands and enhance their reputations with key stakeholders.

Before joining Slack Barshinger, Carol ran corporate communications for Orbitz and was the driving force behind award-winning programs that quickly turned Orbitz and Orbitz for Business into nationally recognized brands. Prior to that, she served as vice president of media relations at Kemper Lesnik Communications, where she managed account teams and provided strategic counsel to key clients on media relations, crisis communications and reputation management.

Carol is a former White House correspondent and reporter for USA Today and the Chicago Tribune. She remains an intrepid world traveler.
